Setup Apache, Mysql, And Php On Windows Xp

This article is a user-friendly-guide for you guys to setup Apache, MySQL, and PHP on Windows XP. But before we proceed, i’ll just
give you some overviews about these stuffs.

1. What is Apache?
===============================
Apache is an open-source (source code is freely available and can be shared) HTTP Web server software. It is currently the most
popular web server on the Net. It is usually run on Unix operating system versions like Linux or BSD, but it can also be run on
Windows. It is a full-featured server with many powerful add-ons freely available. Apache’s major competitor is Microsoft’s IIS.

2. Installing Apache
===============================
After you already know some sort of informations about Apache. We will decided to install it on your Windows XP (If your not using
Windows XP, please wait for any upcomming tuts).

2.1 Ok so first of all we need the Apache installation files. Ive used Apache v2.2 on this tutorial, but its up to you what
version you will use. You could visit their official site http://www.apache.org/ and check for the latest one. But dont worry
about the changes, im sure you’ll gonna fixed it later on. :)

2.2 After downloading the Apache Installation files. Open it to begin the installation process. On the Server Information page,
you could follow what ive set like what is on the image showned.

You could choose the directory you want. But i merely chosen to put it onF:\ and renamed it to \apache\ so my
installation directory is F:\apache\ to be much easier for the next steps. Note that you could choose C:\ if you want,
it depends on you :)

2.3 If you are using Zone Alarm Pro, just choose Allow to permit the Apache installation process. Then after it test your Apache
Server if its working, by typing http://localhost/ on your web browser as what on the image shown.

By default, your Apache’s root documents are located inside this directory:

F:\apache\htdocs

The document root is where you must put all your PHP or HTML files so it will be process by Apache ( and can be seen through
a web browser ). If you want to change your document root, go to the configuration file located in side F:\apache\conf\
and open filename httpd.conf. And find these lines:

# documents. By default, all requests are taken from this directory, but
# symbolic links and aliases may be used to point to other locations.

DocumentRoot "F:\apache\htdocs\"

Change it to wherever you want to but be careful typing the directory location coz it might cause trouble if you’ve got mistakes.

3. What is PHP
================================
(Hypertext Preprocessor) open source, server-side HTML scripting languaage used to create dynamic Web pages. PHP is embedded within tags,
so the author authorr can move between HTML and PHP instead of using large amounts of code. Because PHP is executed on the server, the
viewer cannot see the code. PHP can perform the same tasks as a CGI program can do and is compatible with many different kinds of databases.

4. Installing PHP
=================================
Download the PHP package from their site ,http://www.php.net/downloads.php , choose the zip package and extract to F:\php\ again
like what we did on Apache. Take note that ive used php-5.2.0-Win32 on this installation so you might found out any changes.
Now, we should tell Apache about PHP’s presence on our system. to do this:

4.1 On your PHP directory, create a copy of php.ini-dist and rename it php.ini.

4.2 Go to your Apache directory and again open the httpd.conf located at \conf\ folder and add these lines below:

4.3 Save and close.

4.4 Now we should test our php if its working. Create a file and name it info.php on your Document Root (F:\apache\htdocs)
and add these PHP line.

I would suggest that you create a shortcut of your document root on your desktop for your convinience. :)

4.5 On your System Tray, refresh your Apache server to take effect on the changes we’ve made.

4.6 Now, on your web browser type

The successful result should be like this:

Note: On the image you will noticed that ive marked the INFO1 with a red mark, this is just to hide my privacy.
And on the INFO2, the path of your PHP Configuration File(php.ini) will be displayed there :)

5. What About MySQL?
==============================
MySQL (pronounced "my ess cue el") is an open source relational database management system (RDBMS) that uses Structured Query
Language (SQL), the most popular language for adding, accessing, and processing data in a database. Because it is open source,
anyone can download MySQL and tailor it to their needs in accordance with the general public license. MySQL is noted mainly for
its speed, reliability, and flexibility. Most agree, however, that it works best when managing content and not executing transactions.

6. Installing MySQL
=================================
Download the MySQL package from thier site, http://www.mysql.com. On this tutorial, ive used mysql-5.2.0-falcon-alpha-win32.zip
but anyway you could check out on their site what are the changes on newer versions. After downloading, ive chosen the path F:\mysql\

6.1 Install in and Select Custom Mode, and then select the path you want. (mine is F:\mysql\)

6.2 During the installation process, you will be prompted by the setup wizard to Sign Up for MySQL.com, Just Select Skip Sign-UP.

6.3 And then select "Configure the MySQL Server Now"

6.4 Click Next and Select Standard Configuration.

6.5 By default, the Configuration Wizard already checked the Install As Windows Service with a Service name "MySQL" and on automatic
startup. You may want to check the Include Bin Directory in Windows PATH, read the description before proceeding to the next step.

6.6 On the next screen, check the box that says Modify Security Settings. Enter a password for the default "root" account, and confirm
the password in the box below. Do NOT check the boxes "Enable root access from remote machines" or "Create An Anonymous Account" UNLESS you know
what you are doing. Click "Next".

6.7 You will be prompted to decide weather you’ll executing or just abort the installation process. But of course, we will choose Execute.

The configuration wizard may take a few minutes. So be patient :)

6.8 A successful installation will result to this:

6.9. To test if MySQL was installed correct, go to: Start > All Programs > MySQL > MySQL Server 5.2 > MySQL Command Line Client. The MySQL Command
Line Client will appear:

6.10 A Welcome Message will prompt you if your password is correct:

Welcome to the MySQL monitor.  Commands end with; or \g.
Your MySQL connection id is 2
Server version: 5.2.0-falcon-alpha-community-nt MySQL Community Server (GPL)

Type ‘help;’ or ‘\h’ for help. Type ‘\c’ to clear the buffer.

But if your password is incorrect, the MySQL Command Line will automatically close. So you should’ve remembered your "root password" during
the installation process

6.11 Type the commands shown

mysql> CREATE TABLE name (

Query OK, 0 rows affected (0.08 sec)
mysql> INSERT INTO name VALUES (NULL,’h4xors’);

If you don’t get any errors, and it returns the information shown above, then MySQL has been successfully installed!
